Where is the best place to get PADI certification

  • Quality of diving. This is the biggest factor.
  • Size and atmosphere. Some dive operations treat the trainees very bad and it doesn't matter how good the diving is because you will not see much of it anyway.
  • Location. Do you want to be on a tiny island with no internet or you prefer to be somewhere that has more going on besides diving.
  • Future plans for diving.
  • Scuba diving course or training. The most common options  are to either take the course straight through or do more an 'internship' training course. The course is much shorter and very straight forward with very little training or leading with divers. The internship takes 1-2 months and you are more a part of the dive operation than a customer. If you want to be a divemaster you should do the internship type course.
  • Cost. Varies by location and dive operation. For example, diving in Maldives is expensive.

One of the best places to get scuba certified is Koh Tao, Thailand

Koh Tao (“Turtle Island”) is second after Cairns, Australia, when it comes to number of annual scuba diving  certifications. Travelers come from all over Southeast Asia to take their first breaths underwater in the coral reefs fringing the Turtle Island. And it’s clear why: the diving courses are cheap, the dive sites are abundant, the turtle island is beautiful, and the lifestyle is easy.

Prospective divers coming to the island are spoiled for choice when it comes to dive schools, dive instructors, and dive sites. Competition is fierce - there are over 50 dive shops on this large island.

PADI or SSI?
There are over 50 scuba diving training systems, but in Koh Tao, the choice always comes down to two: PADI or SSI. Each organization develops its own teaching materials and awards its own certifications. But the differences are minimal. No matter what diving certification card get, you’ll use the same equipment, see the same fish, and will dive at the same resorts. Certifications are recognized worldwide. No matter which organization you choose to certify with, the most important factors in the quality of your diving course is  your dive school and your instructor.

This is for someone who want to do SCUBA diving whilst on holiday and happy to dive only with professional dive leader. The SD course is basically half of the Open Water Diver Course including rental equipment, OW manual, Log book and the certification card which allows the diver to dive to a maximum of 12 meters under supervision. You can upgrade this Scuba Diver to PADI Open Water Diver in 1 year without going back to the beginning.

This course takes 2 days. The 1st day we start in the morning with diving theory and equipment familiarization, followed after lunch by a shallow water skills session finished around 5:00 p.m. The 2nd day is go out on the boat around Koh Tao to make 2 dives with maximum depth 12 meters and put the skills learnt in to practice.

PADI Open Water Diver Course (OW)
This gives you a lifetime diving ticket to the underwater world. We start an OW course everyday at 4:00 p.m. and we take maximum 6 students per instructor per course. We teach in English, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Spanish, German, French, Dutch, Italian, Japanese and Thai. There is some medical questionnaire that needs to be completed before start of the course. The OW course consists of 3 main parts: Dive Theory, Shallow Water Skills and Open Water Dives.

PADI Advanced Open Water Course (AOW)
The AOW course consists of 5 Specialty Dives. There are 2 Core Dives which you must do, they are Navigation dive and Deep dive (30 meters) and this means that apart from the Navigation and the Deep dive you can choose 3 Elective adventure dives. The Night dive is no longer a core dive, but we strongly recommend that you do this night dive. Multilevel dive is a very good experience, you learn how to plan your dive in different depth levels so that you can get a longer time under water. This is a technique used all the time when you go deeper than 18-20 meters.
